Mustangs Power Past San Joaquin Delta
Los Medanos continued its impressive season with a commanding 49-20 victory over San Joaquin Delta on Saturday afternoon. The win moves the Mustangs to 9-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play, keeping them firmly in contention for postseason honors.
Quarterback Aidan Crawford led the charge, throwing for 254 yards and three touchdowns, while adding another score on the ground. His favorite target, Ryan McKendry, hauled in four receptions for 64 yards and two touchdowns, keeping the Mustang offense rolling throughout the first half.
Running back Kevin Fowler powered the ground game with 124 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Jordan Barbadillo added 105 yards and a score, and Aikiz King found the end zone as part of a 346-yard team rushing performance.
Los Medanos struck early and never looked back. After an early Delta defensive score tied the game at 7-7, Crawford connected with McKendry late in the first quarter to give LMC a 14-7 lead. The Mustangs built on that advantage in the second quarter with touchdowns from Barbadillo and McKendry to take a 28-20 halftime lead.
The third quarter was all Los Medanos. The Mustangs scored 21 unanswered points, including touchdowns from Fowler, Crawford, and King, while the defense clamped down and held San Joaquin Delta scoreless in the second half.
Defensively, Sean Cervantes led the team with nine tackles, while Sayyidi Abdul and Izaiah Reid added key stops and pressure. The Mustang defense forced two turnovers and limited Delta to just 270 yards of total offense.
Kicker Will Geer was perfect on the day, going 7-for-7 on extra points.
Los Medanos will look to close out the regular season strong next week as they continue their push toward a bowl berth.
